Sindh nationalists refuse to join Jan 14 march

HYDERABAD: Sindhi nationalist parties have turned down an invitation from Dr Tahirul Qadri, founder of the Minhaj-ul-Quran International (MQI), to join the January 14 long march to Islamabad.

The Sindh United Party (SUP) and Sindh Taraqi Pasand (STP) announced their decisions separately on Monday, a day after an MQI delegation approached them for support.

The parties, which are also a part of the Sindh Progressive Nationalist Alliance (SPNA), cited the active participation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and a lack of clarity in the objectives of Dr Qadri as the reasons.

“The political forces which talk about electoral reforms, [want a] say in the caretaker setup and [seek an] end to feudal control of the government will have to change their minds first,” said Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, president of SUP and convenor of the Sindh Bachayo Committee. “They will have to dissociate from a party which has a feudalistic mindset,” said Shah, while referring to the MQM.

June 10 Black Day: PPP blackens its face by Killing Three political activists

Karachi, Sindh, June 10, 2009

Pakistan’s democratic government, in province of Sindh, interior ministry ordered police on June 9 ‘not to allow political demonstrators to stage a planed Sit-In in front of Chief Minister House, Karachi.

June 10, day came, when hundreds of people started to gather at Fohara Chowk, on Abdullah Haroon Road, Near Karachi Press Club, their other colleagues were stopped, baton-charged and tear gassed by police in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, an entry point to City of Karachi and others were stopped at Hyderabad bypass, but one procession coming from Gulshan-e-Maamar, Karachi, located on northern bypass, was fired by Police, killing three activists of Sindh Tarraqi Pasand Party (Sindh Progressive Party).

Some television channels tried to black out the news, some resorted to distorting the story saying “an encounter has taken police on northern bypass, 3 people were killed”, others quoted Edhi sources saying “they have found three dead bodies”. This is free journalism in our country. Not a single newspaper or television channel bothered to send their reporter to find out what exactly has happened. The Drama continued for four hours. Meanwhile Dr. Qadir Magsi, Chairman of STP talked to TV channels disclosing the killing of his party’s three workers. Only two Sindh TV channels Sindh TV News and KTN News aired it, however KTN still continued to report “three killed: STP claims”, the claim was not verified by their reporters.

Meanwhile rumour spread across the province that STP Chief Dr. Magsi has been killed, interior of the province went shutting down shops and businesses. Panic and confusion marked the June 10, and our provincial government, with army of ministers, remain unconcerned and aloof as what was developing, allowed chaos to rule the province, police kept denying killing of activists, Angry Karachi Police Chief told reporters on phone “He is not aware of the killings, but we have orders to stopped the protesters from staging Sit-In in front of Chief Minister House”.

Country national high way that links two ports of Karachi with rest of the country remained locked for 6 hours, but no government spoke person came and spoke on the tragic events of the day. Where was government, did government exist in city and rest of the province?

SUP rally attacked by Police and Ragners, one killed, 4 injured, Zain Shah arrested

Jamshoro – Private TV channels ARY News and Express News are reporting that police has resorted to baton charged and airiel firing on protesters of Sindh United Party (SUP) activists who were protesting against arrival of outsiders in province of Sindh. SUP stages a big demo on Super highway, blocking traffic for hours.

Police and rangers arrested several activists including party’s General Secretary Syed Zain Shah. Hearing this news of arrest, party activists blocked National High Way and Super high way. ARY News showed live footage of police beating and firing on workers, several workers were picked up by rangers and police after beaten on super high way.

Workers continue to block National High way at Jamshoro Phatak, while Rangers and Police are clearing the super high way for traffic. TV channels report police have registered cases of treason against activists of SUP.

According to reports rallies against settlement of displaced people in Sindh have been peaceful, Sindh Taraqi Pasand Parrty (STP) has announced to stage Sit-in on June 10 at Chief Minister’s house in Karachi and another Sit-in on Sindh Punjab border on June 17.

Political parties in Sindh have been of the opinion that influx of Internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Malakand operation area, where Pakistan army is fighting Taliban militants, would convert Sindhis into minority in their own motherland as millions of illegal aliens are already residing in Sindh. Afghan migrants of 1980s still have not gone back to their country. New wave of migration would do a big blow to the demography and culture of the Sindh.

Politics, economy, business and culture of Karachi, the capital of Sindh, is already dominated by non-Sindhis.

Jeay Sindh Leader Bashir Qureshi appeals World to help liberate Sindh

Bashir Qureshi
Bashir Qureshi

(Editor’s Note: Bashir Qureshi is a Sindhi nationalist leader, he heads his own faction of Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaz (Long Live Sindh National Front) based on ideology of late G.M. Syed who called for independence of Sindh from Pakistan in 1970s. G.M. Syed was founder of movement for independent  Sindh into a separate country he called “Sindhudesh”, that means land of Sindh. Qureshi lives in Karachi, originally hails from a small city of Larkano district called Rato Dero. He became prominent when he was student leader in early 1980s at Tando Jam University, where he was studying. It is not confirmed that he completed his graduation from there or not because he was frequently arrested and remained in jail for several years.)

On January 5th, 2009  Syed’s birth day was observed in his ancestral native village called Sann.
Few passages of speech made by Bashir Khan Qureshi, Chairman JSQM are taken from Sindhi newspaper “Awami Awaz” (means voice of people) are given below;

G.M. Syed is an ideological leader not only of Sindh but of globe, Syed considered Pakistan’s creation precarious not only for people of this country but for world at large”. This reality is now established universally that Pakistan’s existence is precarious not only to region but world at large.

We consider meaning of Pakistan as Punjabistan. Madeleine Albright, the former U.S. Foreign Secretary of State/Minister, said openly that “Pakistan is a Migraine for the world”. International Community committed error by not accepting G.M. Syed’s advice, and now this same mistake should not be repeated again, to get rid of religious extremism, international community should support Sindhis, Bashir Qureshi said.
“We Sindhis, though are stronger than Balochistan in terms of ideology but in fighting and resistance Balochs are far ahead than us. We demand end to operation in Balochistan and fully support independence of Balochistan, and further demand freedom and independence of all nations who have separate existence, he (Bashir Qureshi) said

The Birth Anniversary of G.M. Syed was attended by some five thousands men & women on January 5, coverage of the event widely reported on January 6th 2009.

Background: At present there are four major groups/parties following into the political footsteps of late Jeay Sindh group led by Bashir Qureshi called JSQM is considered to be successor of G.M. Syed’s movement and most popular among its Jeay Sindh’s workers.

Other groups are JSQM-Areesar Group and Jeay Sindh Mahaz-Junejo Group, the fourth group is led by Syed’s own family called Sindh United Party (SUP), it is led by G.M. Syed’s grandson Syed Jalal Shah, who is a former member of Sindh Assembly and Deputy Speaker & acting speaker of Sindh provincial assembly. SUP has moved from demanding separation of Sindh to provincial autonomy of Sindh while remaining into Pakistan’s framework. Where as other three groups still demand independence of Sindh.
