THATTA, Nov 14: Leaders of the Awami Tehrik have opposed attempts to dislodge the PPP government. Speaking to participants of a long march off the National Highway, they said that although the government adopted anti-Sindh polices and failed to solve basic issues of people, the AT would not anyone to topple its government AT leader Rasool Bux Palijo, president Ayaz Latif Palijo and Sindhiani Tehrik leader Zahida Shaikh were addressing participants of the long march off the National Highway on Saturday. Hundreds of people joined them to express solidarity. Participants raised slogans and staged a sit-in. Songs were also sung in solidarity with the People’s Party.
On 22nd November, Quomi Awami Long March led by Rasool Bux Palijo has reached Karachi, and thousands of Man, women and children marched from Mazar-e-Quid to Imprest Market, the historical place from where Sindh played his role in 1857 war against British. Main leadership of Muslim League (N), Jamait-e-Islami, Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf, Muslim League (Q) and civil society showed absolute solidarity and participated in this Grand Peaceful Public Gathering of more than two hundred thousand Sindhis including about fifty thousand women. Participation and unanimous support of leaders of various political parties indicates that they are united over the issues and all called this event as most exceptional, mammoth, unique and longest protest march in Indo-Pak history and congratulated Awami Tahreek and Rasool Bux Palijo for this heart-awakening march. First time a march of a Sindhi Nationalist political party was the big head line evening news for all English, Urdu and Sindhi TV channels and named as a remarkable and unprecedented massive show of strength of indigenous local people.
Pushed to the wall, the people in Sindh seem to be coming together. First JSQM’s mammoth rally of November 7 and now AT’s big public meeting at the culmination of its 46-day, 900-kilometer “Long March” in Karachi today. Another party, STP is to hold a grand rally in Karachi in January.
Congratulations to Jeeaey Sindh Qaumi Muhaz and Awami Tahreek for their peaceful and highly successful rallies and best wishes to Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party for their upcoming event.
It is auspicious to see major political parties and groups in Sindh coming together to work for the rights of the people. Hope their cooperation with each other will help end injustices and bring peace and prosperity to the people and the land who have suffered heavily during last 62 years under various democratic as well as undemocratic regimes.
The next step should be sitting together of the leadership of these parties and groups and chalking out a plan to take Sindh back. Holding big rallies is good but should be considered only a beginning of a thorny and complex journey.
Rasool Bux Palijo’s Quomi Awami Long March is on its way to Karachi and will reach at Ghaghar Phattak, the outskirt of Karachi on 18th November and will march four days in Karachi. On 22 November as its last 46th day it will be turned in Grand Peaceful Public Gathering from Mazar-e-Quid to Press Club Karachi, Sindh.
Long March of Awami Tehrik from Kashmore to Karachi designed for multiple agendas is in way with vigor and enthusiasm towards its destinations. We can’t resist the temptation of paying glowing tribute to the marchers, walking in scorching sun, especially to daughters of this soil.
Awami Tehrik enjoys a large amount of proportion in contribution towards nationalist politics of Sindh. Some of the most significant aspects of politics of Awami Tehrik can be summed up thus: To evaluate and the analyze the issues in very scientific manner in light of local and international changing realities and to formulate its policies accordingly ;to highlight and create role of women in politics;to explode the myth that nationalist politics of Sindh is only confined to the parties and groups affiliated with ideology of Saeen G.M Sayed and to discard the impression that the from and manifestation of nationalist politics determined by G.M Sayed’s affiliated groups is final an determintal ; to integrate art with politics where by producing it vigiour, enthususiasm, spirit and charm;to create a reasonable and balanced blending of various existing political trends in Sindh viz, democratic, leftist and nationalist into its slogan of Qomi, Awami, Jamhoori, Tabqati Inqalab; and to promote trend of ideological orientation and training into politics.
We support the spirit and purpose of the long march. I welcome and appreciate your efforts against terrorism, autocracy, discrimination, corruption, jirga and sardari system. We support you in condemning the practice of karo kari (honor killings); asking for provincial autonomy, educational and health facilities and demanding the ownership of natural resources and opportunities for employment.
These are worthy causes. Until today, the struggle has not yielded the desired results. However, we cannot and should not give up these worthy causes. God works in own ways. May be the time is NOW and your and our efforts will make it happen.
Regardless of our party affiliation or personal misgivings or personal preferences, I urge all freedom loving people to keep working for these worthy causes..
This is to introduce to you a patriotic socio-political organization Awami Tahreek (Peoples Movement) based in Sindh, (Pakistan) with its Headquarters at Hyderabad, Sindh.
People connected with Awami Tahreek have been in the fore front of every democratic and patriotic movement and struggle in Pakistan in general and Sindh province in particular since the mid-sixties.
Awami Tahreek is an organization with a broad world out-look and believes in all around and all-embracing change for the better in all fields in Sindh and Pakistan, in South Asia, Asia and the third world and in our entire global village which is also called the space-ship earth.
“This is a stronghold of Bijarani, Somroo, Jhakhrani, Oghai and Taighani sardars,” answered a handsome Sindhi villager who was sitting next to me on a charpai at a roadside restaurant on the Super Indus Highway, where we had stopped to have tea. My peculiar appearance (white beard, moustache and a ponytail) and interest in their issues caught the attention of others, who wanted to share their thoughts. In order to trigger a debate, I asked about the role of these tribal sardars in local development and their well being. No one had anything good to say about the sardars and the successive governments in which the former have played a major role. Almost everyone complained about their tyranny, and the lack of educational and health facilities. Among them was a teacher who said that it had been many years since a school was opened or upgraded in his taluka. In fact, most schools had become non-functional despite the swelling population.

The World Sindhi Institute fully endorses the demands registered at a recent conference of political and civil society representives seeking a new constitution for Pakistan and a new socio-economic and political contract for Sindh and other minority provinces, that took place in Hyderabad Sindh , on August 14th 2009(see below).
Citing the dysmal failure of the current constitution and the historic existence of the covenant of 1940 ( Lahore Resolution ) which already establishes a framework and template for geunine federalism , the consultative body, unanimously agreed that the 1940 Resolution is the only acceptable denominator to base a bew constitution on.
WSI also endorses veteran politician Saieen Rasool Baksh Palijo’s demand to stop the large scale pilferage of Sindh Waters that continues with impunity and that that has destroyed and continues to destroy the livelihood and health of Sindh’s citizens.
Humaira Rahman, General Seretary, World Sindhi Institute
“05-07-2001 SANA Convention in Chicago, Illinois, Rasool Bux Palijo urged every educated Sindhi to read more – learn more about world history, freedom struggles, and particularly the military and political strategies. You don’t need every Sindhi to be educated to bring about a change. What you need is smart leaders and smart middle class who can predict and understand each move of adversary and quickly make a counter move and take an offensive move, when appropriate. He added that he was quite hopeful in the ability of Sindhis to withstand all onslaughts and ultimately come out victorious. Let! there be no doubt that these Sindhi Sapoots and followers of Shah Abdul Latif will never give up on their rights. They will not vanish in the history. They will resist and fight until they are victorious. By this time every one in the audience so attentive that other than his words, there was no other sound. Even the Sindhi infants, who never seem to stop crying, seem to have been taken aback by what was happening around them.

Rasool Bux Palijo, Awami Tahreek, Sindh
Awami Tahreek is progressive and pro-people political movement
Awami Tahreek is progressive and pro-people political movement of peasants, writers, students and working class people of Sindh. Since its inception in 1970s it has worked for democratization in country, giving voice to voiceless people of Sindh. It has established working class leadership at gross roots level in a society which is dominated by feudal elite and class which is patronized and sponsored by undemocratic elements in this country. AT believes in social change and transformation of Sindhi society by building alliances with working class people of other provinces of this country and seeks solidarity with people at large in world.
In my view, the declaration below reflects sentiments of most Sindhis…
Joint Declaration – National Consultative Conference of Sindhi People -Hosted by Awami Tahreek, in Hyderabad.
We the political activists, intellectuals, writers, women activists, civil society members, farmers, teachers, media, representatives of the different professional organizations and the people of Sindh unanimously declare that Sindh has been thrown at the mercy of urban terrorists, cruel feudal and myopic establishment of Pakistan. Cities of Sindh are being treated as conquered territory, rural areas have been converted into feudal fiefdoms and natural resources of Sindh are being exploited as colonial subject. Sindhis have been deprived of their right to rule and reduced into no entity while taking decision on matters pertaining to the province. Though state institutions do exist but they serve the interests of establishment, feudal, terrorists, anti Sindh forces and the Punjab dominated federation of Pakistan.
..Joint declaration passed at a conference entitled “National Consultative Conference” held in Hyderabad by Sindh Veteran Politician Rasool Bux Palijo, Cheif of Awami Tahreek, some 200 delegates participated in the conference, Sunday May 10, 2009. Two things were interesting to note in this declaration: 1. US and Western democracies were accused of condoning and supporting urban terrorism in Karachi. 2. Nationalist parties (for first time in Sindh) demanded ‘no-right-to vote for people of other provinces in Sindh, and in forth coming census, people hailing from other provinces should not be counted and registered as citizens of Sindh (fearing indigenous Sindhis turning into minority in their own motherland) .. Ruling coalition in Sindh government was invited in the conference… Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mehaz (JSQM) and Asif Baladi did not sign the charter (they said: nothing less than sovereignty)
This seemed to be first anti-PPP alignment (if not an alliance) mostly by nationalist parties of Sindh joined and supported by PML N and Jamaat-e-Islami.
