Zulfiqar Mirza and the role of media?

Sadly, almost all anchors of major news channels seemed to add fuel to fire. The questions, mostly, were instigating the participants to repeat the same mistake as committed by Mr. Zulfiqar Mirza, the anchors should have acted responsibly. Critical questions could have been avoided. Controversial personalities shouldn’t have been telecast on National TV channels.

Pakistan: ISI Led Alliance in Formation

ISI Led Alliance in Formation – by Dr. Akram Khan

Based on information from by multiple sources in political and media circles, and compilations of analysis on discuss forum on pkpolitics, a clear plan seems to be under execution by establishment (aka Army/ISI) to setup the future puppet political government in Pakistan.

The plans seems to be as under:

• A new alliance comprising PTI (Imran Khan), MQM (Altaf Hussain), factions of PMLQ, and JI are being actively supported to form an alliance to force an anarchic situation followed by a joint electoral alliance.

• This alliance would be supported by other individual ISI agents, including Sheikh Rasheed, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Saifullah brothers, Humayun Akhtar Khan and many more.

• A few TV anchors and journalists, such as Haroon Rasheed and Kamran Khan are already making grounds for such alliance and change.

• This ISI led political alliance would intensify the call for breakup of Punjab plans through campaigns of Mohammad Ali Durrani, PPP and MQM to make Bahawulpur, Multan, Haripur and Karachi as new provinces primarily to weaken the anti-establishment parties in next elections. …

Instead of becoming angry on the role of establishment and its agencies, Imran Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami & the rightious TV anchors are getting furious on the poor politicians!?

Judiciary, Establishment and its pawns in the media

by Yousuf Nazar

It was not surprising that the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court did not even entertain an application against the release of Raymond Davis. If it was Sherry Rehman who had been acquitted from some trumped up charges, I wonder they would have taken suo moto action suspending the acquittal decision.

The ISI-CIA’s deal should highlight one thing to our TV channels and their anchors. The establishment and the ISI work very closely with America, more closely than the PPP government. And the judiciary works very closely with the establishment. If you are someone like Salmaan Tasser, who is not liked by the establishment, you risk losing your life and Islamic law would be cited in favor of the killer. But if one is really a CIA agent, “true Islamic law” is observed and he is released after paying money from a slush fund.

Would all TV anchors concede that all their anger at either the government or Americans misses the biggest link; the security establishment which has been and continues to be the biggest protector of American interests in Pakistan. If they have some ‘ghairat’ and true courage, they should interview Gen. K~~~i and Gen, Pa~~~a and ask questions about the nature and the extent of CIA’s operations in Pakistan and billions of dollars of arms purchases, their rationale, and their purchase mechanism, and commissions paid and received. These ‘super patriots’ should also be asked if they don’t want drone attacks, why don’t they shoot them down? But can they do that with the F-16s bought from their masters in Washington? It is about time we face the most bitter fact: the security establishment cannot protect national interests because it has compromised them by its old and huge dependence on American money and arms. Would people like Kamran Khan, Talat Hussain, Kashif Abbasi, Shahid Masood, and the rest of their colleagues ever muster the courage and acknowledge that or would continue to mislead the people of Pakistan?

“Shoot us” : Mazhar Arif writes on role of media in Taseer’s killing

“Shoot us”

by Mazhar Arif

Urdu press and leading television channels, played a catalytic role in what happened. They lament that the responsibility of Taseer’s assassination rests with the irresponsible media and its howling and yelling anchors. The Jamaat-e-Islami and Sipah-e-Sahaba affiliated journalists and analysts in the media berated and maligned Taseer for supporting poor Christian rural worker Aasia Bibi …

Pakistan the ‘most bullied US ally’!?

RAWALPINDI: On the day WikiLeaks released a slew of American diplomatic cables revealing, among other things, tensions between the US and Pakistan over nuclear matters, a top Pakistani military official claimed the country “has transited from the ‘most sanctioned ally’ to the ‘most bullied ally’” of the US.

The comments were part of a wide-ranging briefing given to editors, anchors and columnists on Sunday. The timing of the briefing appeared to be a coincidence, having been scheduled before the WikiLeaks information became public. All comments were made strictly on the condition of anonymity being maintained. …

Request to honorable court of Pakistan by Chairman Sindh Development Foundation

Very serious legal matters are being discussed in different TV channels of Pakistan like proceedings in open air discussions. Some anchors are portraying as a complainant, chief witness, trial lawyer, prosecutor and judge all together and then they are giving verdicts about legal matters to instigate the general public and different institution to revolt. According to the constitution, it is not fair to persecute anybody in general public by open air media trail for character assassination. According to law, every one is innocent until proven guilty. It is the right of the honorable court to give a verdict after a fair trial. Justice is blind and it can not be selective. Accountability should be for all and not against one person or party. It seems that such organizers, anchors and TV channels are running a one side campaign against one party and trying to destabilize and weaken the democratically elected Government of Pakistan.

DR ALI AKBAR DHAKAN

Chairman, Sindh Development Foundation
