ISLAMABAD, Dec 19 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari Saturday said the PPP will use democracy and constitutionalism as its weapons to fight its adversaries and foil all conspiracies against it. He said this while addressing the concluding session of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting of the party in the Presidency on Saturday. The CEC of the party not only reposed full confidence in his leadership but also vowed to rally around him at time when he is the target of criticism and political attacks from all around and to put up a fierce fight in his defence.

Briefing the newsmen the Spokesperson to the President former Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the Co-Chairman of the PPP also categorically stated that the PPP will not be blackmailed into asking its ministers to resign merely on the basis of accusation against them.

“None of accusations had been proved during more than a decade of witch hunting and there is no reason why any one should resign until proved guilty of wrong doing”.

The President said that despite hurdles created in its way the PPP will continue its forward march to strengthen democracy and emancipate the poor and the downtrodden and will not be deterred by conspiracies against it.

President Zardari said that the party survived even after the judicial murder of its founder Chairman and the country’s first directly elected Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. That Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was judicially murdered has even been admitted by a Judge on that bench in his media interviews.

The President said that the party also survived the assassination of its Chairperson Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto two years ago. He said that “we have faced many challenges in the past and are ready to face even more challenges in the future but will not abandon the fight nor run away from the field”.

President Zardari said he foresaw many more conspiracies and onslaughts against the PPP and added that none of the conspiracies will be allowed to succeed.

President Zardari said that individuals in some institutions may have wronged the PPP but “we will not harm the institution to avenge wrong doing by any of its member”. PPP is a party that gave the country unanimous Constitution, the mother of all institutions, and it will protect and strengthen state institutions at all cost, the President said.

He said that the PPP was the party of the masses from Khyber to Karachi and from Bolan to Gilgit-Baltistan, to Azad Kashmir and to tribal areas and as party of the federation will protect and defend the federation at all cost.

The government was fast moving towards finalizing the Constitutional reforms and the credit for this will also go to the PPP in the same way as it is credited for the NFC Award, the G-B reforms, the forward movement on FCR and the Benazir Income Support Program, Farhatullah Babar quoted the President as saying.

President Zardari said that he was inspired by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s historic remarks that he would rather die at the hand of dictators than be killed by history. This is the compass of my life too, he said.

  1. The regressive forces are once again rejoicing at the SC verdict on NRO and terming it as a mile stone. Certainly the name of honorable Chief Justice would be written with golden words as the name of Maulvi Mushataq for hanging Bhutto Shaheed. After judicial murder of Shaheed Z.A Bhutto, next target of Judiciary was Benazir Bhutto Shaheed and she was pushed against the wall by fabricated and politically motivated cases, history is witnesses and now the next target is president Zardari. For the PPP justice from Pakistan courts seems word wild goose. Despite all this biasness, vindictive attitude and partial attitude of Judiciary, Govt has said it respects the courts and court verdicts. The Party and the government will implement the court’s verdict with all sincerity and honesty. The most heinous crime of was the negotiations for the restoration of democracy, shedding of the uniform by the Military dictator and the holding of elections.
Those who are demanding resignations from President and PPP minister must have a look at their past. PPP Ministers and President will not be asked to resign merely on the basis of accusations that had been leveled on political grounds and over a decade of witch hunting did not secure conviction. The courts are indeed free and there is no reason to feel unduly concerned that the proceedings will be influenced. I hope Judiciary will not follow the step of its predecessors and would not move for another judicial murder.

  2. Verdict of NRO was welcomed by every quarter including Pakistan people’s party. Now we have to see what the darkest day of 16th December in the history of Pakistan, once again hatches. If the political stream does not show sagacity, God forbid history may repeat itself.

The irrational attitude of opposition parties and Judiciary could result in a worst turmoil. Likewise some elements are demanding of President of resign? He should tender his resignation ethically. Why, because of corruption charges? How silly, an elected president of county should resign mere on the basis of fake allegations.

We really feel no shame in forgetting sacrifices of our heroes, how soon we forget Zardari is the head of party who gave blood for the country; its leaders rendered their lives for the democracy. Even the same Zardari pursued PML-N to take part in February 18th elections. He is the same person who secured 481 votes and elected as a democratic president of Pakistan. He is the same person, who settled the raced sentiments of Sindh by chanting Slogan of Pakistan Khappay. He is the person who set a new precedent of reconciliation. He is the same Zardari who, vowed to eradicate meannace of terrorism and launched a full-fledged operation.

Zardari was hero of the nation days ago but why he is not acceptable today?
