The disparity of economic conditions between rural areas and few urban centers in Sindh continues to grow further as the present government remains oblivious to the problems of rural areas. In this backdrop, many questions are being raised in Sindh about the recent announcement by President Asif Zardari that a new city called Zulfiqarabad will be build between near Karachi. The noted social scientist and development specialist, SaeeN Naseer Memon has written a timely comprehensive article with convincing arguments that the government should put emphasis on improving existing decaying small cities and towns of Sindh instead of wasting resources on building a new city. Ah! My body is shuddering from pain. This is my reward for all the services I have done for this ruthless, cruel two-legged animal. Today is my last day, and this is my only consolation! After having lived a life full of hardship, suffering and trouble, after having endured unbearable loads, repeated blows from stick and chain and the curses of passers-by, thank God that I am bidding farewell to this dreadful life.

Musharraf’s Musical Masti

By B. R. Gowani

Rome was burning

While Nero was playing the fiddle

Some truth and some not…

Rome was burning, that is true

but no music was playing then

though he knew the lyre and was a singer

Like other Roman Emperors,

Nero was cruel and merciless

During his heinous reign

Christians were thrown to the dogs

In 64 CE

When 25% of Rome burnt to ashes

And 50% was badly damaged

Nero could not have been fiddling;

There were no fiddles then.

Musharraf’s policies set Pakistan on fire

True it continues to rage on …

Not yet under control

He is playing the tabla and singing songs in England,

where it appears he’ll be the Queen’s guest for a while

If he returns to Pakistan

And the judiciary proves stronger;

Then shed no tears for him

For the military will ship him out for medical treatment.

Rest assured no one can touch him,

He is of the military elite

And no such fate as Z. A. Bhutto can be allowed.
