HYDERABAD: Two people were killed while four others received bullet injuries as violence broke out in Kotri, Jamshoro district on Sunday evening.

The incident comes in the backdrop of the killing of two activists of the banned Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM) in Khairpur Nathan Shah of Dadu district.

Their bullet riddled and mutilated bodies were found in Dadu earlier in the day. Two vehicles were torched and a train was attacked in the unfolding incidents of violence in Kotri.

JSMM has called for a province wide strike on Monday, according to a press release received through an email, to condemn the incident.

The PR blamed ISI and Rangers saying that they had picked up two activists who were busy in preparation of late GM Syed’s death anniversary on April 24. After going missing their bodies were found on Sunday in Khairpur Nathan Shah, it said.

Meanwhile a train, Awami Express, was attacked by armed motorcyclists at Kotri bridge, hitting four people including an FIA personnel and a policeman. They were identified as Nawaz Gujjar, an FIA employee and Gulrez alias Ali Nawaz, a policeman.

The train was coming from Peshawar when it was fired upon. One Dilshad also reportedly received injuries on board the train.

Gulrez was shifted to Liaquat University Hospital city branch while Gujjar was admitted in Kotri’s taluka hospital.

Gulrez was being operated upon in the hospital. One Abdul Ghani Qureshi, who received injuries at Shah Latif chowk, was also shifted to LUH city branch where he breathed his last, according to his relatives.

There are reports that Qureshi was targeted because he had been previously working with a secret agency before being inducted in the revenue service. He was an under training Mukhtiarkar (revenue officer).

One resident of Pathan colony Hyderabad, named Amjad, also received bullet injuries in Kotri when the train was fired upon.

He was shifted to LUH city branch but could not survive, according to a medico legal officer (MLO).

A mazda (Shahzore) pick-up was burnt near taluka hospital while a bus of a pharmaceutical company was also burnt at the bridge by miscreants. They were completely burnt. Gunmen went on a firing spree in Kotri, causing harassment in the area and within minutes the entire city was closed.

SSP Jamshoro Khurram Waris told Dawn.com that the violence is a reaction to the deaths of the two JSMM activists.

“An operation is being planned and arrests of suspects are likely”, he said and added that first the train was attacked in which a number of people received bullet injuries while two vehicles were also burnt by gunmen in Kotri.

Meanwhile, the JSMM has issued a press release, mentioning the killing of Amir Khuawar and Sajjad Markhand in Khairpur Nathan Shah Dadu.

JSMM spokesman Waheed Khoso said in the statement that the state has launched an operation against JSMM which held a big gathering in Sann to mark the death anniversary of late GM Syed.

Khoso said the JSMM would not be intimidated by these atrocities. JSMM is raising slogan for an independent Sindh.

Adds: One person was gunned down while another injured when unidentified gunmen fired on them at an ice cream shop in Qasimabad on Sunday night within the jurisdiction of Qasimabad police station.

Violence has started in Hyderabad in the backdrop of the killings of two JSMM activists.

The deceased was identified as Rehmanullah Khan, said to be the owner of the shop.

The injured man’s name is Imtiaz Ali, who has been shifted to Liaquat University Hospital (LUH) city branch. They own ‘Mashallah Peshawari’ ice cream shop on main Qasimabad road.

According to people within the area, four gunmen, who were riding two motorcycles, went inside the shop and targeted them at point blank range and fled away.
