Enemies of Pakistan Still Itching to Build the Controversial Kalabagh Dam

Enemies of Sindh Still Itching to Build the Kalabagh Dam

by: Khalid Hashmani, McLean, Virginia

Now that 18th amendment is place and the federal legislature can void any provincial laws even those that cover the jurisdiction of provincial government, several enemies of Sindh are merging together to re-create the menace of the Kalabagh dam. The short article below from one of the most unpatriotic web sites that wants to destroy Pakistan by pursuing centralist agenda an usurpation of provincial autonomy should serve a wake-up call for Sindhis.

The PPP leaders must realize that they better resist from falling into trap by taking a neutral stand on the Kalabagh dam.

The Common Bases for Hindu-Muslim Dialogue

by Maulana Waris Mazhari

(Translated from Urdu by Yoginder Sikand)

The first step in the quest for inter-community dialogue is the search for common ground. Religious and cultural differences divide Hindus and Muslims from each other. This diversity need not necessarily be seen as intimidating, however. In fact, the Quran explains that diversity is natural. The Quran instructs us thus:

‘If God so willed, He could make you all one people’ (16:93).

Commenting on the above-quoted Quranic verse, the noted Islamic scholar Imam Razi writes in his Tafsir-e Kabirthat this refers to the fact of diversity of religions and customs among human beings.

Nature desires diversity, not uniformity. That is why we should aim not at eliminating these differences but, rather, to tolerate them in accordance with the demands of Nature.

Man is a social animal. It is ingrained in his nature to seek to live in peace with others. That is why there are no two communities in the entire world that have nothing in common between them. It was for the common purpose of protection, peace and justice that the Prophet entered into a treaty or pact with the Jews of Medina. This is an instance of practical inter-community dialogue based on common values and concerns.

Somali Talibans kill two for watching World Cup

Somali militants killed two soccer fans whom they caught watching a 2010 FIFA World Cup game, the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) said on its website.

The incident took place late on Saturday in a village near the Somali capital Mogadishu. A group of heavily armed militants of the Hezbal Islam radical group attacked a house where a group of soccer fans secretly followed the tense Argentina-Nigeria game.

“Two young men who tried to jump over the wall were shot and killed while ten others including my husband and my teenage son were taken into Islamist custody in the village,” Halima Ahmed, a mother of five children told AIPS in a phone conversation.

A Hezbal Islam leader, Sheik Mohamed Abu Abdalla, said the men violated the Islamic law and those caught by militants will be tried in an Islamic court.

“Football descended from the old Christian cultures and our Islamic administration will never allow watching what they call the FIFA World Cup. We are sending our last warning to the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, residents in the southern Jubba regions have sent a complaint letter to the Al Shabab militant group, which controls most of the southern and central parts of Somalia and a large swath of the capital seeking permission to watch the world’s largest sporting event.

But when community elders entered the Al Shabab administrative office in the southern key port town of Kismayo on Saturday, they were told that they would be arrested if they came back with a similar request.

Sindh awaits a saviour, says Nawaz Shrif

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz’s chief Nawaz Sharif on Monday said the government was also engaged in massive corruption in the province of Sindh. Nawaz said if PML-N got another chance to form a government at the centre, it will solve the problems of all provinces.

Addressing PML-N workers from the various districts of Sindh, he said economic conditions in the province were so poor that people could not send their children to schools. “The people of Sindh await a saviour,” Nawaz Sharif said. He further said that the PML-N has no place for the self-serving and the power-hungry. “Musharraf’s cronies and facilitators have driven Pakistan on the brink of disaster,” he said.

TRICK WITH PEOPLE OF SINDH IN NFC AWARD

Dr Ali Akbar M. Dhakan, Karachi, Sindh

In order to foster national unity and stabilize the democratic system of government in Pakistan, a great and plausible decision was agreed upon on 30th December 2009 at Gawadar by the representatives of all provinces duly signed by the Prime Minister on the 7th NFC award but it is indecent and shocking on the part of the concerned Secretary Ministry of Finance Govt. of Pakistan who became successful to dodge his superiors and the top rulers of the Government of Pakistan, the Prime Minister and the President of Pakistan to get issued a deceitful, violated and defective presidential order on the mutually agreed 7th NFC Award. From this Presidential order, two basic sections/decisions providing financial benefits particularly to the Sindh province have been scratched out. They were (i)General Sales Taxes on services to be transferred to provinces and (ii)Financial resources to be distributed to provinces according to the multidimensional method of distribution of financial resources.

The Tragedy with the ORIGINAL owners of Sindh

The Tragedy of Sindh!!!

On the Globe of this earth, Sindh is the territory with the rich culture, identity, and language but after the partition of subcontinent, it is discriminated, dishonored, and behaved within not good way possible by almost all the governments of this country.

This discrimination can be shown in the recent event of refusing the issuing of CNICs (identity cards) for indigenous people like BHEEL, KOLHI, DALT, JOGI, and OODE [The ORIGINAL owners of Mother Sindh]. These people are the REAL sons of soil, since before 2000 to 3000 years ago. They are even more real, more original, more Sindhi than any MIR, PIR, SYED, .., and ALL other migrated and settled in Sindh.

Today, thousands of illegal immigrants have the domicile of Sindh, WITHOUT even knowing anything about the culture, tradition, language, history of Sindh. HOWEVER! The REAL and TRUE SONS of Sindh are DENIED an IDENTITY CARD FOR THEIR OWN LAND!? They should STOP this Racism, Discrimination, and Cruelty.

The real threat aboard the Freedom Flotilla

By Noam Chomsky

- IN THESE TIMES

Israel’s violent attack on the Freedom Flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza shocked the world. Hijacking boats in international waters and killing passengers is, of course, a serious crime.

But the crime is nothing new. For decades, Israel has been hijacking boats between Cyprus and Lebanon and killing or kidnapping passengers, sometimes holding them hostage in Israeli prisons.

Israel assumes that it can commit such crimes with impunity because the United States tolerates them and Europe generally follows the U.S.’s lead.

The Earth Is Closing on Us – Mahmoud Darwish

The Earth Is Closing on Us

- Mahmoud Darwish, Translation by Abdullah al-Udhari
The earth is closing on us, pushing us through the last passage, and
we tear off our limbs to pass through.

The earth is squeezing us. I wish we were its wheat so we could die
and live again. I wish the earth was our mother

So she’d be kind to us. I wish we were pictures on the rocks for our dreams to carry As mirrors. We saw the faces of those to be killed by the last of us in the last defense of the soul.

We cried over their children’s feast. We saw the faces of those who’ll
throw our children Out of the windows of the last space. Our star will hang up in mirrors.

Where should we go after the last frontiers? Where should the birds fly after the last sky? Where should the plants sleep after the last breath of air? We will write our names with scarlet steam.

We will cut off the head of the song to be finished by our flesh.

We will die here, here in the last passage. Here and here our blood will plant its olive tree.

Enemies of Pakistan trying to stop Sindh Government taking over jurisdictions freed from Federal Control by 18th Amendment

Enemies of Sindh trying to stop Sindh Government taking over jurisdictions freed from Federal Control by 18th Amendment

by: Khalid Hashmani, McLean, Virginia

.. Manzoor Chadio points out several cases at different Sindhi e-lists/ e-groups, where enemies of Sindh are engaging in activities to stop the Sindh government from taking over the control of those subjects that have returned back to provincial jurisdiction after decades of federal usurpation. It is imperative that Sindhis in Sindh and overseas Sindhis to jointly show support for the provincial take over and criticize those who are still maneuvering to retain control over these subjects. We must stand guard and insist that the PPP governments at the provincial and the federal levels do not waiver from implementing their responsibilities.

Chandio sahib has pointed several specific cases where the daggers have been drawn and the role played by so-called national press in trying to slow down the take-over by the Sindh government. In particular, the three federal hospitals and several educational institutions are at the stake, where enemies of Sindh/ Pakistan are wedging wars on various pretexts.

I urge all to study this critical development and show our collective support for the provincial take over the institutions that we lost because of our apathy few decades ago.

The imperialism of Urdu

Is There a Conflict Between Urdu And the Regional Languages in Pakistan?

by Khurram Ali Shafique

[Excerpt] .. Prof. Karrar Hussain is an outstanding intellectual and scholar. At eighty-plus the Professor continues to discourse on social, religious and other poignant issues.

“After the fall of Delhi and Lucknow, Lahore became the center of literature and Hyderabad ( Deccan ) the center of science and other subjects. There was (official) patronage in Hyderabad but no such thing in Lahore .” And still the language and literature of Urdu flourished here.

….

“And then came Independence. Now, we must keep in mind that all people love their own languages. So, when you raised the cry: ‘Urdu hai aur Pakistan hai / Yeh sharif admi ki pehchan hai.’ Naturally, this cry caused resentment among the people of these regions. And this we would call the imperialism of Urdu. This was a very wrong thing.”

….

“Now Urdu here cannot be the same as it used to be in Delhi and Lucknow. It will be the Urdu of Pakistan. To insist upon the Urdu of Delhi and Lucknow , to insist upon the same usage, and upon the same life, and to insist that this is the mark of patriotism, is wrong. The conclusion I derive from this is: Urdu ko Urdu kay doston say bachao! (save Urdu from its friends) Urdu flourished when it was free from the politics.

AFP – London: Saudi Arabia has conducted tests to stand down its air defences to allow Israeli jets to use its airspace in a bombing raid on Iran’s nuclear facilities, The Times newspaper reported on Saturday.

“The Saudis have given their permission for the Israelis to pass over and they will look the other way,” a US defence source in the area told the paper.

“They have already done tests to make sure their own jets aren’t scrambled and no one gets shot down. This has all been done with the agreement of the (US) State Department.”

A MAN WITH NO BAD HABITS!?

Once a man was waiting for a taxi. A beggar came along and asked him for some money. The man ignored him. But being a professional, the beggar kept on pestering him. The man became irritated when he realized that the beggar would not leave him alone unless he parts with some money.

Suddenly an idea struck him. He told the beggar, ‘I do not have money, but if you tell me what you want to do with the money, I will certainly help you.’ ‘I would have bought a cup of tea’, replied the beggar.

The man said, ‘Sorry man. I can offer you a cigarette instead of tea’. He then took a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and offered one to the beggar.

The beggar told, ‘I don’t smoke as it is injurious to health.’ The man smiled and took a bottle of whisky from his pocket and told the beggar, ‘Here, take this bottle and enjoy the stuff. It is really good’. The beggar refused by saying, ‘Alcohol muddles the brain and damages the liver’.

The man smiled again. He told the beggar, ‘I am going to the race course. Come with me and I will arrange for some tickets and we will place bets. If we win, you take the whole amount and leave me alone’. As before, the beggar politely refused the latest offer by saying, ‘Sorry sir, I can’t come with you as betting on horses is a bad habit.’

Suddenly the man felt relieved and asked the beggar to come to his home with him. Finally, the beggar’s face lit up in anticipation of receiving at least something from the man. But he still had his doubts and asked the man, ‘Why do you want me to go to your house with you’.

The man replied, ‘My wife always wanted to see how a man with no bad habits looks like’”"”

Why Pakistan keeps exporting jihad

By Fareed Zakaria

- Washington Post

Faisal Shahzad, the would-be terrorist of Times Square, seems to have followed a familiar path. Like many recruits to jihad, he was middle-class, educated, seemingly assimilated — and then something happened that radicalized him. We may never be sure what made him want to kill innocent men, women and children. But his story shares another important detail with those of many of his predecessors: a connection to Pakistan.

The blasphemy around us

by: Ayaz Amir

- The News

If Islam stands for anything, it is for a just society, free from want and oppression. There is, thus, in Islam no blasphemy greater than a child dying of hunger, a child begging for bread, a woman drowning herself and her children, as has frequently happened in the Islamic Republic, because the burden of life was too much for her, a man throwing himself before an onrushing train because of poverty.

Democracy versus dictatorship

by: Dr. Syed Ehtisham

The worst ‘democracy’ is better than the best dictatorship, as democracy is a sociological and political step forward. Democracy is a function of capitalism, while dictatorship is a function of pre-capitalist tribal -monarchical- feudal-agricultural-mercantile- stages of society.

The West proceeded to the capitalist stage from the mercantile stage, while the Ottoman empire reverted to agricultural mode and other countries stayed put. Pakistan stayed in the feudal stage while India moved to early capitalist stage.

This is Toronto and not Tiananmen Squaure

QMI AGENCY – Protesters allege they are being targeted for questioning or sometimes detained by police for helping to organize G8 and G20 demonstrations. Some protesters even claimed the immigration status of some members, or their families, are being threatened by police if they take part in demonstrations. Officers in uniform and plainclothes lined up outside the Metro Convention Centre, where the June 26 and 27 Summit is taking place, as about two dozen protesters from a coalition of groups vowed to reclaim their city, which they said is being turned into an armed camp. Not far away, crews are working 24-hours to erect a three-metre high, 3.3 km long fence that will ring the convention centre. Those who work or live inside the security zone will have to enter through police check-points.

“This is Toronto and not T I AN A N M E N  Square,” community activist Greg Thomas told a cheering crowd.

Ahmadi massacre silence is dispiriting

The virtual conspiracy of silence after the murder of 94 Ahmadis in Pakistan exposes the oppression suffered by the sect

- Declan Walsh

- Guardian

I often find myself defending Pakistan against the unbidden prejudices of the outside world. No, Islam is not the cause of terrorism. Yes, the Taliban is a complex phenomenon. No, Imran Khan is not a major political figure.

This past week, though, I am silent. The massacre of 94 members of the minority Ahmadi community on May 28 has exposed something ugly at the heart of Pakistan – its laws, its rulers, its society.
